Fewer burst pipes after mains renewal

WORK to improve water mains in the Highlands and Islands has resulted in fewer burst pipes.
Scottish Water said yesterday that it dealt with 1,397 burst mains during 2008-9 – 106 fewer than the previous year.

Over the last year, Scottish Water has replaced 61.5km of mains in the Highlands and the Western Isles, having renewed 72,100m the year before.
