Closure date for school 'a disgrace' says MSP
EDUCATION chiefs are creating an exodus of pupils from an under-threat primary with parents left with little choice but to look elsewhere, it was claimed today.
MSP and former minister Malcolm Chisholm said the council was "holding a gun" to the parents of Bonnington Primary in Leith by proposing to close the school at Christmas instead of at the end of the school year.
Today he called for the council to reconsider its plans and keep the school open until at least next August.
The Evening News revealed last week that at least ten pupils have already been taken out of Bonnington – which has a roll of just 80 pupils – by their parents, who want to avoid disrupting them in the middle of a school year.
Mr Chisholm said: "It is disgraceful that the council is holding a gun to the parents in this way."
