John Lewis back in the black on sales

DEPARTMENT store chain John Lewis has halted its recent run of gloomy figures, revealing a 5.9 per cent jump in revenues yesterday for the week to last Saturday.
Around half of the store's branches improved year-on-year sales during the second week of the company's clearance period.
Fashion sales grew by 13.9 per cent in the week, with electricals and home technology up 3.8 per cent and home ahead by 0.1 per cent. Sales at supermarket chain Waitrose grew 1.2 per cent to £75.6 million last week.
