HMV defies the high street gloom

ENTERTAINMENT retailer HMV yesterday confirmed it was one of the high street winners from the past year after a group-wide overhaul resulted in like-for-like sales lifting 7.3 per cent.
The group, which runs music and games stores as well as the Waterstone's book chain, said its turnaround plan was ahead of schedule with sales growth at its UK and Ireland HMV outlets at 11.4 per cent.

Total group sales in the 12 months to 28 April were up 10.3 per cent on the year before, with a 4.7 per cent improvement for Waterstone's.
