CURRYS and PC World owner DSG International, one of Europe's largest electrical retailers, said today that it is to close a raft of stores and cut costs in a bid to revive the business.
It is to shrink the size of the Currys Digital estate by not renewing the leases of around 77 of its 177 stores when they expire in the next five years.

The company, which has been one of the main victims of the slowdown in consumer spending in recent months, also unveiled plans to remove £50 million of costs during this financial year.

The group said of its UK operation: "While the majority of the 177 Currys.digital stores make a positive contribution there are up to 100 stores in attractive catchments that most likely will be the focus for future trading.

"The remaining stores will be closed as their leases expire."
