CARPHONE Warehouse, the mobile phone retailer that owns the TalkTalk landline and broadband service, has cut its forecast for new broadband customers.
It now expects to add between 200,000 and 250,000 subscribers in the year to March 2009 – down from 400,000 predicted in April. Revenues at the TalkTalk business are expected to be broadly flat compared, after growth was previously flagged at 4 to 5 per cent.

Carphone, which has 2.8 million broadband customers, warned in June that it may have to downgrade the numbers.

In a trading update yesterday, chief executive Charles Dunstone said: "While the second quarter has started well, with a sharp pick-up in subscription connections on the back of the iPhone 3G launch, we remain understandably cautious about the consumer environment."

Carphone announced a £1.1 billion deal with US consumer electronics giant Best Buy announced in May to launch large-format stores across Europe.
