RADIOHEAD are on course to top the chart after finally releasing their latest album in the shops.
The band made headlines last year when they invited fans to pay what they liked to download In Rainbows.
The experiment was not deemed a total success after a survey revealed two-thirds of downloaders paid nothing.
But now the album is heading for the No 1 spot on Sunday, with predicted sales of 50,000 – proving that plenty of fans are still willing to part with their money to own an actual CD.
"This demand underlines the enduring appeal of the CD," said HMV's Gennaro Castaldo.
Leon Jackson, the X Factor winner from Whitburn, looks set to retain the No 1 spot in the singles chart.
