Carpets pile up as sales slump
FLOOR coverings retailer Carpetright has recorded a 15.4 per cent slump in like-for-like sales in the UK and Ireland.
The company, which has branches at Hermiston Gait, Newcraighall, Leith and Straiton, said the trading environment has become much more difficult in the 13 weeks to August 2.
The group said it had been a demanding first quarter and warned conditions were likely to remain tough, but it added that it expects to grow market share due to recent operational improvements.
Lord Harris of Peckham, chairman and chief executive, said: "The trading environment in the UK has become more difficult and we can see this continuing for the rest of our financial year.
"However, we believe that our recent operational improvements enhance our resilience."
