IF YOUR image of accountancy is that of middle-aged men in grey suits, think again: 58 per cent of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants' (ACCA) students are women and in Scotland, where I am from and where I work.

Over the past five years in Scotland, there has been 29 per cent growth in women studying for ACCA.

Gender equality defies the law of nature.
Very few women will ever be able to carry a sack of tatties on each shoulder and therefore can't expect to get paid for doing so.
The self employment idea is interesting though and I look forward to seeing just how many women grasp the opportunity to become a plumber, builder, electrician etc.
