SCOTTISH companies faced with the prospect of making redundancies should consider seconding staff to India to work for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, according to business experts.
Jane Gotts, programme director for BusinessClub Scotland, a body set up primarily to help companies benefit from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, said there were still real opportunities in Delhi. Gotts said: "We've been speaking to some companies in Scotland that are maybe looking at redundancies and we've asked whether there would be interest if we identified potential secondment opportunities to Delhi. There absolutely is interest."

There has been speculation that India is behind schedule in preparing for the games. Gotts, who recently visited Delhi, said: "There is still a lot of work to do. But the games are an immense source of pride for the Indian people and they will definitely get there."

BusinessClub Scotland, created by the Scottish Council for Development and Industry and the Scottish Government, last month launched a 2014 Commonwealth Games portal where businesses can register to bid for contracts coming up for grabs in Glasgow.
