Police chiefs hit out over the time it takes to inspect their own forces

SCOTLAND'S chief constables have attacked the way in which the police are inspected by a government watchdog. Colin McKerracher, chief constable of Grampian Police and president of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (Acpos), fears that inspections are becoming a "bureaucratic exercise" rather than a proper way to improve policing.
He says inspections are "rolling off the conveyor belt" at too fast a pace, tying up large amounts of police resources with little obvious benefit.

What is the purpose of all these themed inspections? Surely they're to improve the service the police provide to the public who pay their wages.

"Six reports in the last two months" doesn't sound as if it's helping make things better; rather it sounds like an ambitious bureaucrat trying to make his mark and climb higher up the promotion ladder.
