ONE of Scotland’s biggest removal firms has brushed aside the current economic woes and invested £3 million in a new, custom-built facility in West Lothian.
Removal Services Scotland (RSS), founded in 1992, has relocated to its new Livingston base from the Granton area of Edinburgh.

The move comes on the back of an 8 per cent rise in full-year turnover, which topped the £2m mark for the first time. R
SS said it moved about 1,200 households during 2007.

Its new facility will increase secure storage capacity by more than 65 per cent, providing 50,000sq ft of warehouse space.

Iain Wright, managing director of RSS, said: “This is the biggest investment in new premises, storage facilities and vehicles to be made by a Scottish removals firm.

“We chose West Lothian because it allowed us to build our own facility, instead of subletting in Edinburgh.”

He added: “The business continues to grow and evolve and although the housing market is undergoing significant change at the moment, we expect 2008 to be at least as good as 2007, probably better.

“We have seen an increase in storage due to the fact that people are more likely to sell first, store their belongings and then look for a new property.”

Wright said there had also been an upturn in the commercial furniture storage market.
