Somerfield boosts yield
GROCERY chain Somerfield has unveiled plans for new stores across the UK after it posted a rise in sales.
Like-for-like sales rose 6.4 per cent in the 12 weeks to Easter as it continued its branding towards the local grocery market.
Somerfield said three stores were to open in Hove, Bristol and Hopton-on-Sea but revealed a plan to open 250 more in the next three years.
The chain's owner – a consortium including property tycoon Robert Tchenguiz – is said to be looking to sell for £2 billion.
