SWEDISH energy company Vattenfall is thought to be considering a takeover bid for Scottish & Southern Energy.
Vattenfall has already indicated that it is keen to move into UK markets, and shares in SSE rose 2.2 per cent on the back of increasing city rumours.

Vattenfall spokeswoman Maria Parent declined to comment on rumours that the company had secured funding for a 1650p bid, although she would not rule out a possible takeover.

She said: "Britain is one of the markets that are not so consolidated yet."
