BUSINESS Stream, the business supply arm of Scottish Water, has clinched a major contract with Tesco's Scottish stores.
The contract, which is worth about £2.5 million a year, is Business Stream's largest major contract win since the introduction of competition into Scotland's £340m non-domestic water market last month. Business Stream managing director, Mark Powle
s said: "Clearly, we're delighted to continue working with such a high-profile brand as Tesco and are now looking to enhance that relationship by making sure water works better and more efficiently for all of the company's Scottish sites.
"No-one knows the Scottish retail market better than Business Stream.
"It's that experience and knowledge, coupled with the tailored services we're able to offer customers like Tesco that puts us in a strong position to compete in the new open market."
This comes as reports claimed that Aquavitae – one of Business Stream's four competitors – may have withdrawn from the market.
Industry sources are understood to have claimed that the company was to stop providing services, but the Central Market Agency, which authorises licences for water companies, said nothing had been confirmed.
Scottish Water was reported as saying: "We are aware that the new owners (of Aquavitae] are reviewing the strategic direction of the company. We have not been informed of their conclusions."
