Bid approach for Imperial

RUSSIA-FOCUSED oil company Imperial Energy is in talks over a possible £1.3 billion takeover bid for the group, it said yesterday.
Imperial did not name the company that had approached it but industry sources identified the suitor as the Indian state-controlled Oil & Natural Gas Company. The approach was at 1,290p a share.

Imperial's shares jumped 18 per cent, or 164p, to 1,074p yesterday. The company said there was "no certainty" an offer would be made.
