EDINBURGH RUGBY and Watsonians are down-playing a friendly match which is expected to go ahead at Myreside next Tuesday evening.
The Celtic League team have confirmed the fixture which was revealed in yesterday's Evening News. However, in a statement Edinburgh added: "We are staging a practice/training match against Watsonians on Tuesday evening, but it will be three slots of
20 minutes as opposed to any kind of formal game."
More recognition for the fixture would have further strengthened links to the Celtic League scene for a Watsonian club who, initially, gave up 13 of their Premiership-winning side to centrally-run rugby.
The last time a club side faced Edinburgh was in August 2006 when Heriot's lost 61-7 (try count: 9-1) to an Edinburgh development team in a fixture which, admittedly, gave rise to concerns about a mis-match.
Myreside was the last club ground Edinburgh played at when they entertained Tonga last August.
Meanwhile, among those training with Edinburgh in a special session at Melrose yesterday was Heriot's winger Marc Teague who is keen to win a contract.
EDINBURGH ACCIES will face Haddington in a friendly at Knox Academy tonight (7.15), while champions Boroughmuir face Stewart's-Melville at Inverleith tomorrow.
