Double whammy for John Menzies as media and aviation sectors hit

SCOTS STOCKS
DISTRIBUTION giant John Menzies plunged yesterday on continued fears for both the media and aviation sectors in which the Edinburgh-based company operates. Shares in Menzies plunged 38p, almost 11 per cent to 312p.

Weir Group fell 2.3 per cent as
it announced a small acquisition, taking its oil and gas division into the Caspian Sea. KBC Peel Hunt reiterated its buy rating but shares fell 19.5p to 845p.

Stirling home insulation company Superglass slumped to a new record low on fears for its balance sheet as new house sales plummet. The company, which issued a profits warning this week, dropped 6.5p, or 14.3 per cent, to 39p. Shares in the firm have fallen 83 per cent since September.

Wolfson Microelectronics continues to trade near an all-time low, with shares being punished this week as rivals issue revenue warnings. Wolfson added a quarter of a penny to 100.75p yesterday.

On Aim, 5-a-side football pitch operator Powerleague fell 4.6 per cent despite analyst at Altium Securities reiterating its "buy" rating with a 90p share price. Powerleague shares fell 2.5p to 51.5p, its lowest level in almost three years. Rival Goals Soccer Centres also slid, down 4.4 per cent to 236.5p.
