CAIRN Energy's Indian unit has raised almost £312 million after a private placement of around six per cent of the group's shares.
The move will see key investor Petronas – Malaysia's state oil and gas company – up its stake in Cairn India from 9.93 per cent to 12.7 per cent.

Singaporean private equity firm Orient Global Tamarind Fund will also buy into Edinburgh-based Cairn's subcontinent operations, taking a 2.6 per cent stake.
