Vodafone buys into Ghana

VODAFONE, the UK telecoms giant, has continued its expansion into emerging markets, paying £452 million for a 70 per cent stake in Ghana Telecommunications, the former state monopoly in the African nation.
Arun Sarin, Vodafone's outgoing chief executive, said Ghana was one of the most attractive countries in Africa for investment, with mobile phone subscriptions rising by 55 per cent a year. The government of Ghana is retaining a 30 per cent stake in the company.
