Blinkx and you'll miss it
SHARES in UK-based video search engine firm Blinkx jumped 26 per cent yesterday on talk that internet giant Google and media conglomerate News Corp may bid for the firm.
Blinkx, founded in 2004 by Sri Lanka-descended Briton Suranga Chandratillake, floated on Aim in May 2007 following a merger with another UK search engine firm, Autonomy. Piper Jaffray analyst Rajeev Bahl said Blinkx may be a target because of its technology and its strong consumer focus.
Talk of a bid "does not sound ridiculous", he added.
Blinkx issued a brief announcement at lunchtime saying: "The board ... notes the increase in the company's share price and confirms that it is not aware of any external bids or bid-related reason for the movement."
