CLEARSPEED Technology last month admitted it faced a challenge in getting its cutting edge products into the marketplace.
Although the company said its high performance computer processors were a "very strong product offering", as a new technology it would take time to achieve sales.

Shares in the company have lost almost 90% of their value over the past year but cha
irman Richard Fairleigh appears to believe the fall has been overdone. He has gone into the market twice this month to increase his holding, spending more than £380,000 buying shares at about 9p each to raise his stake to 18m shares.

• Simon Pryce, chief executive of BBA Aviation, has upped his stake with a £102,000 purchase. He bought 100,000 shares in the aviation services company at 102p a time and now holds 317,780 shares.

• Several directors at German property investor Develica Deutschland have increased their holdings. The biggest spender was co-founder Grant Tromans, who bought 3.54m shares for ?0.13 each to add to the 336,000 shares he purchased earlier this month. He now holds 7.50m shares in the company.

• Ian Strachan, a non-executive director of Xstrata, bought 5,700 shares in the mining group at 1719p. UBS recently lowered its price target on the shares from 4600p to 2700p.

• John Napier, chairman of RSA Insurance, has increased his stake by almost a third. He bought 100,000 shares at 134.8p each and now holds 460,000 shares.

• Michael Straughen, group director of John Wood Group's engineering operations, bought 10,000 shares at £2.57 each. He now holds 13,055 shares in the Aberdeen-based company.

• John Talbot, executive chairman at dry cleaning group Johnson Services, bought 250,000 shares at 14p.

• Emma Thomas, company secretary at Woolworth, has bought her first shares in the company with a purchase of 273,973 shares at 3.65p each.
