SHARES in General Motors and Ford soared last night on hopes that a deal was close to being agreed that would bail out the struggling US car industry.
A group of US senators said they had reached a bipartisan agreement on a bill, providing a glimmer of hope to a deal that looked dead just hours earlier.
But Democratic Congressional leaders may not go along with the terms and Congress may have to debate the details.
