Egg producer Glenrath goes against the grain to deliver cracking results
THE biggest producer of eggs in Scotland has managed to increase profits despite soaring costs of grains used for chicken feed.
Glenrath Farms reported operating profits of £3.91 million for the year to the end of May 2007, compared to £3.86m in the previous year. Sales were down from £33.56m to £31.55m.
The increase in profits came despite feed prices, which account for 60 per cent of Glenrath's production costs, rising by 11.5 per cent during the year. John Campbell, the firm's chairman, said the company is looking to recover some costs through price increases.
