More people trust their mattress

THE number of people who think the best place to keep their money is under their mattress has nearly trebled during the past year, a survey yesterday warned.


Around 11 per cent of people said they now thought their money was safest under their mattress, compared with just 4 per cent 12 months ago, according to the Newcastle Building Society. People said they had lost confidence in banks and building societies after the Northern Rock crisis.
