Ryanair plans big Brum take-off

BUDGET airline Ryanair has announced it is to open its 25th European base at Birmingham International airport.
The base, expected to handle five million passengers a year, will introduce 20 new routes from Birmingham to destinations including Portugal, Slovakia and Norway.
The group is investing £355 million and the base is expected to create 5,000 jobs in the West Midlands.
Starting with two Boeing 737-800s, it plans to grow to a total of ten.
Ryanair's outspoken boss, Michael O'Leary, used the announcement to attack existing airlines already operating from the city.
"The people of Birmingham have been woefully underserved and overcharged by British Airways and Flybe's high fares for years," he claimed.
"Ryanair's investment will bring with it a significant increase in European visitors and jobs for the West Midlands."
