The real elephant, not mentioned in this article either is the fall in UK production. Farmers have been told indeed forced to cut back output, now finally prices are rising and we will soon be blamed for inflation.
Maybe those production subsidys had a usefull effect after all. Too late now to get back to that it will take 20years to fix the damage done to farming in the UK and cost billions, but it looks like it will have to be done.
food prices on the up - about time too, artificially holding the price of something always backfires in your face, producers have been calling for a fair price for a while now, the funny thing is that one of the factors in inflation was quoted as rising milk prices, try telling that to the 3 milk producers who are quitting the industry every day of thr week!!
