Local media don't need the BBC.

Licence fee payers will eventually rebel against the unsustainable annual poll tax and the sooner the BBC is funded from pay per view the better.

The internet should INCREASE competition and diversity of information sources, not bolster up exisiting monoliths.

#1 I hope that never happens. The BBC is one of the jewels in Britain's crown, and the envy of the world. Look to the States to see what would happen if it disappeared - no broadcaster there even claims to be unbiased, and the news agenda follows the money, not the story. God help us if we end up in that state.

Duncan #3, I'm with you on that one. The BBC model sure ain't perfect but it's better than a lot of the alternatives. The internet does increase competition but a lot of it has been a 'race to the bottom'. Where it has been better, it's often the big established players who are behind it.
