Spar owners weather storm

SPAR convenience store co-owners and distributors CJ Lang held its own during a difficult year.
New accounts show that the Scottish firm maintained operating profits of £5.7 million and increased turnover by 2.8 per cent to £255m in the year to April 30, 2008.

CJ Lang owns 92 Spar stores in Scotland, which accounted for a greater share of its turnover than in previous years, and distributes wholesale supplies to the 400 Spar stores in Scotland, which include two in Edinburgh.

Distribution costs rose by 4.3 per cent to £11.3m.
