SCOTTISH Television will screen rugby again with a new half-hour programme hosted by Richie Gray.
Gray anchored STV coverage during the Rugby World Cup and the former Gala player and current coach will host Scotsport Rugby Sunday which intends to "showcase the game at all levels", including footage of Edinburgh and Glasgow in the Magners League, club rugby highlights from the Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership and features on other aspects of the game in Scotland. The first of ten programmes will be shown at 6pm on Sunday, 11 November.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Rugby Union has unveiled a new shirt sponsorship deal with Murray. The three-year deal will see Sir David Murray's company name emblazoned across the shirts of the national team. The new shirts will be worn for the first time by Scotland Sevens at the IRB World Series opener in Dubai later this month.

Good news for rugby coverage- only 1/2 hr but it's a start!

Well done STV, let's hope it is a success and they can increase it to an hour-long show.

Yes nice to see domestic rugby back on Scottish screens.

I'm so glad I bought my shirt without having a sponsors name on it!

About time, we need more! A programme covering all ru news in the world from a Scottish perspective would be a nice addition.

A very camp looking Mike Blair there! The last programme of this type didn't last long and was pulled - lets hope people watch this one so we can see what is happening across scotland!

It's great news and lets hope it is supported. Unfortunatly, Carlistle based Border TV will not be broadcasting the programme. Borders watchers will have to tune in through their sky dish.

Chunky Winger,

Somewhere I shouldn't be.... 02/11/2007 09:22:02

Well done STV, you've got the timig right too; the teatime slot should allow all the kids playing on a Sunday afternoon to watch... It's a long time since we had such a thing on Scottish telly, but I seem to recall the programmes were aired at times that the important audience (i.e. the future players) were either in bed or or outside playing.

Is it just me or is the current kit the most god-awful ugly effort since the orange effort of ten years ago. The new sponsors logo isnt exactly subtle either is it. Why not white lettering on blue rather than a dinner plate sized blob! SRU commercial dept, hang your heads in shame............

Southsider,

Well done STV but please can we have a better presenter than R.Gray and the usual guests please, please?

We need something much more professional and interesting.

#10. Could be worse. Could have ended up with Grant Stott :o}

#11. IIRC you have to add extra ITV channels in 'manually' - it's not as simple as picking a channel number. I could be wrong though.

Good start. However, 10 weeks is a bit short given the length of the season. Hope viewing figures help keep this one going.

No live coverage for the average fan with no Setanta. That means I'll still have to put up with Welsh teams stuffing the opposition in Wales (BBC2 Wales).

10. Southsider,

Agree totally !
Richie Gray is no "anchorman" !
'Fraid it will be another "turn the sound job down " job - shame.
Having said that anything is better than nothing except for Scotsport !!

9. Sad Sack,
Without a doubt the worst by a country mile !!
Looks as though it was just thrown together using remnants !!
