POTENTIAL Labour MPs will have to sign up to an "integrity pledge" to commit to eight principles, including prudence with public money.
Gordon Brown told activists that they had to comply with the commitments in an effort to clean up politics after the expenses fiasco.

The Prime Minister said: "We have got to make sure people see that their MPs and those who seek to represent them are acting in the public interest and not in their self-interest.

"We have got to make sure that people see that their politicians are in it, not for what they can get, but for what they can give."

The pledge, which it is hoped will be extended to sitting MPs, also commits signatories to comply with Commons rules and to publish all allowances.

Ye Gods. The only pledge these NEW LABOUR scum appear to make is to get their snouts stuck in the trough - fast !
One has to keep a sick bag handy for when Gormless Gordon makes these mindless pronouncements.
If ever there was a deeply troubled, damaged individual, lost in a mire of religous and sexual angst then it is Old "Maggie" Broon. Hapless. Hopeless. Hideous.
Someone - Anyone - put him out of his misery .

Brown wouldn't know integrity if it jumped up and bit him. We were promised a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty but Brown failed to deliver because he knew it would be a 'No' vote. He was determined that he was going to get the £millions for ratifying the Lisbon Treaty that signs our country over to foreign powers. People keep banging on about Independence but, when the Lisbon Treaty is ratified by all member states, as is likely, there will be no more Scotland because we will be divided up into regions of Europe.

The Irish are due to have their second referendum in the autumn and they will in all probability accept the bribes from the EU in order to bring in a 'Yes' vote. The other countries yet to ratify will no doubt follow suit.

A shameful PR stunt, which demonstrates the low opinion the Prime Minister has of the public.

Gesture politics of the worst kind. We should be able to take the integrity of our elected representatives for granted. If we can't, then no contrived "pledge" is going to win the public trust.

Just being elected as an MP should be (and used to be) pledge enough. The general public elect you, they do so because of what you promise and what you stand for. They elect you and expect you to be careful with "their" money, to be honest, to serve the interests of the electorate, to be of high moral standing, to set an example to the people.
THAT is what an MP should be.
Take your pledges and shove 'em!

Time was that people in positions of responsibility didn't need to "sign pledges" because they inherently understood that they were expecred to set an example to other is matters of honesty and integrity.

It's a sign of the morality of MPs and those who set expenses rules in the first place (to benefit themselves) that they then set about troughing it in grand style waving two fingers at taxpayers in the process. Same apparently goes for the BBC which should now be renamed British Bung Corporation. And the lid has yet to be lifted on numerous quangos and MEPs, House of Lords etc.

If you have to sign Brown's pledge you know you're not fit for high office and he cetainly isn't, having been party to putting in incorrect claims and "flipping" his N Queensferry property to spend on that as a "second home".

Has he signed the pledge - the self-righteous son of the manse treacherous non-PM that he is. He can't be trusted to even get that right.

A simpler solution would be to produce a Contract of Employment for all MP's which would specify in detail how they should conduct themselves.

It would make clear without any ambiguity what the penalty would be for any contravention of the conditions laid out in the contract.

In particular, abuse of the Expenses System would have to define the various levels of contravention differentiating between abuse but within the rules and straightforward criminal behaviour at the expense of the taxpayer.

I would suggest that the latter on being proved should result in immediate expulsion from parliament with the forfeiture of any pension entitlement and/or terminal payments i.e on top of any punishment by the courts.

There would be none of the practice far too common in the public sector of being suspended on full pay until procedings were completed (often months) Stop all payment at the time of charges being laid.

If subsequently cleared, payment of salary could be made retrospectively along with the repayment of any state benefits claimed during the period of suspension.

Does that include the Labour Councillors and Members of Parliament who have ruled Scotland for the last Fifty years. I think not. Scotland still has the Trade Union movement who are moving into the 21st Century, which I may add is a damn sight more than you ********s are doing. Mind you it is only the new guys who know who they are and why they are alive.

2 Wow, Brown is a mire of religious and sexual angst. You make him sound quite interesting.

Labour would be better off getting their Lords to take the pledge, Foulkes and Watson can take it first.

It's all a con. With PM Brown he says something, no matter what, the opposite will come to pass and be the truth!

A certain Peer serving as an MSP at the Scottish Parliament might well have to be dragged kicking and screaming to "sign the pledge"!

A bit of a rum do that when selecting a candidate you have to ask them to sign a pledge to say that they will be honest.

But this is Gordon's big idea to keep his troops on the straight and narrow.

Sign here says the man to the MP for West Dunbartonshire who tried to claim expenses of a £195 for the cost of a pen.

Yes sign here indeed!

Pity he hadn't done it before - eh?

Laughable! Can you imagine any private sector worker having to sign such a pledge.

"I promise not to defraud my employer"

18 Now now !

Labour will not need to be investigated now, because they have signed a piece of paper saying so!
I suggest the following wording.

I promise not to be a pigswilling trough dwelling lying two faced criminal, and if I am caught ,it was never meant just like Puddles
(Please place your mark here X )

Brilliant >Now Labour can get on with the real problem of allowing Non Labour pigs near their pigswill.

Jail will always be justified (but not if it involves Labour who are above the law).
Billy Bunter promising not to eat any more cakes is a fair comparison.

I will never belive anything this disgusting gang of ratbags say or do ever again(but I never did anyway to be honest)
