THE European parliament is to launch an investigation into the UK government's role in what went wrong at troubled mutual Equitable Life. The investigation will focus on whether the government failed in its role as regulator to protect policyholders.
The European parliament said it would be setting up a committee of inquiry to investigate the issue. Paul Braithwaite, general secretary of the Equitable Members' Action Group, said: "It is a red letter day for policyholders."
