CAIRN India, the oil & gas firm controlled by Edinburgh-based Cairn Energy, has been awarded a new exploration prospect off the coast of Sri Lanka.
Cairn said the government of Sri Lanka had awarded it exploration rights for a large block in the Mannar Basin, off north-west Sri Lanka, covering 3,400 square kilometres at depths of between 200m and 1,800m.

Cairn Energy floated its Indian business in January last year, but retained a stake of 65 per cent in the new company.
