DOZENS of flights from Edinburgh Airport are set to be axed as a result of cuts from two airlines.
British Airways and Scotland's largest independent carrier Flyglobespan will reportedly make the cuts because of the rising cost of fuel.

Flights to sunshine resorts this winter will be the hardest hit. BA said it will announce the full extent of the cuts on Friday.

It was reported this morning that Flyglobespan has cancelled flights that passengers have already paid for to places such as Barcelona, Nice, and budget resorts in Greece and Portugal.

No doubt it's not just Edinburgh Airport that's affected..it will be interesting to learn the extent of routes/service cuts throughout Scottish Airports.

I think that every airport will be affected, other than Heathrow. It was only a matter of time before cuts were announced at Edinburgh. Its happening everywhere else! Good to see that the links to CDG and Frankfurt will still be in place and KLM as these are more important than Nice, Greece and Protugal!

It's about time that a new airport was built midway between Edinburgh & Glasgow (in an area with very little poulation) with a high-speed rail link to both cities. Then close both Edinburgh & Glasgow airports. The money from the sale of the airports lands should cover most of the cost of this.

So Globespan are cutting Greece...well, that is interesting, coz they don't do it from anywhere in the UK.
BA have no flights from Edinburgh to anywhere which could be classed as a 'sunshine resort' unless we are including Gatwick and Heathrow in this category.
Why not just re-write the article ?

Well, in the end Edinburgh came off lightly with just a Gatwick flight cancelled, whereas Glasgow's BA schedule was totally decimated, in line with falling demand at that airport.

I'll always use conveniently-situated Edinburgh for my travel needs. An excellent airport and friendly staff to boot. Nowhere else in Scotland competes, quite frankly.

Flyglobespan has cancelled flights that passengers have already paid for. Now there's a surprise not like them to cancel or change passengers arrangements. That must have been a concern to them for at least five seconds!
